This is an extremely rare vintage necklace of Japanese Akoya saltwater cultured pearls from TASAKI with the original box. A Tasaki shop card that is printed to look like an Akoya oyster shell is also included.
The pearls on this necklace have a golden luster with rose, blue, and green overtones, and an aurora-like iridescent glow.
The necklace has a clasp with the 1970 Osaka Expo logo, a cherry blossom design specially made for the event. The logo is also printed on the inside of the box.
On the back of the clasp are stamped the TASAKI logo (“T” inside an Akoya oyster shell) and “S” (silver).
TASAKI is one of the top Japanese fine jewelry shops specializing in pearl jewelry. The brand has its own pearl farms in Nagasaki and Mie Prefectures, Japan.
Commemorative items such as this from the 1970 Osaka Expo are now a focus of attention because another Osaka Expo will be held in 2025.
The 1970 expo was the first expo held in Japan and also the first in Asia.
This item was sold 55 years ago and it still shines like new.
The necklace has been re-strung (all knotted) with new thread and the pearls have been re-polished, so the condition is like new, but if you ever decide to have it re-threaded again any Tasaki shop will do this for free, without any time limit.
There are some scratches on the clasp, but they are difficult to see by the naked eye and functionally there is no problem.
All the pictures I took have no enhancement, just different environments (outdoor or indoor, sunlight or electric light, different backgrounds). I took several pictures in different environments because the iridescence and luster are difficult to capture in a photograph.
Shape:round-semi round (mostly round)
Excellent luster (sharp mirror-like luster)
Excellent surface quality
Excellent nacre quality
Size of pearls:6.5-6.9mm
Length:40cm
Total weight:26g
Silver clasp with 4.5mm pearl and safety catch
all knotted
Mint condition
(The clasp is clean, but has some surface wear.)
Please keep in mind that most pearls are not perfect.
Some might show dimples, abrasions that look like a series of scratches on the surface, or sections that look wrinkled.
I promise that all corals and pearls in my shop are genuine Japanese untreated coral and Akoya pearls.
But if you would like to have a certificate, I can send the item to a gemologist and get the certificate. It will take about two weeks and will cost US$60.
