K14 Tadpole Akoya pearl ring
K14 Tadpole Akoya pearl ring
Tadpole pearl ring
(Akoya pearl ring with solid K14 ring and K18 chain)
When a pearl is forming, in some cases it moves around inside the oyster and creates a shape like a comet or like a tadpole with a tail.
Japanese Akoya pearl farmers call them “tadpole pearls”.
They are made by accident.
The tail part is pure pearl with no core, and as a result it is delicate-looking but also strong.
I bought this tadpole pearl from a pearl farmer in Shima ten years ago, where Mikimoto first succeeded in making cultured pearls.
This pearl is totally natural color, just as it came out of the Akoya oyster, with no enhancement or treatment.
It was polished and set in a K14 gold ring specially made for this pearl by a professional pearl jeweler who formerly worked at Mikimoto.
The frill-like tale has a perfect curve that fits on your finger, and the K18 chain moves when you move, adding a sparkle. Because of its asymmetry the ring looks different from different angles, and you will never get tired of looking at it.
